Methods of Text and Discourse Analysis - SIMM27

What is text? How does one analyze a discourse? What does it mean to have texts and documents as research material?

Integrating theory and practice

This course is aimed at providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the use of text and discourse analytical methods within the social sciences, and to convey the necessary practical skills required for their application.

Throughout the course you will gain in-depth knowledge of discourse and text analysis. While the main focus of the course is on different types of discourse analysis, we will also explore the potential of and challenges with text analysis and document analysis. The course is structured in a way that makes it possible to integrate theoretical and practical moments of learning the methods. By carrying out team exercises in text analysis, by presenting and discussing them during the workshops, and by writing the individual paper, you will have an opportunity to train your analytical skills acquired during the course.
