"You need to have courage... apply to a job even if it seems like a reach, ask those in your network about job prospects at their current workplace, and if you have a dream job or a workplace where you have always wanted to work at, contact them!"

Hi Viktor! What have you been doing since graduating from Global Studies?

Since finishing my studies at Lund University, I initially moved back to my hometown of Markaryd in the south of Småland, Sweden, as I was offered a job there at the local municipality.

After having been there for about a year I was offered a position as a public sector consultant at KPMG, one of the big four consultancy firms, where I work with advising municipalities, government agencies as well as regional offices in Sweden. As of writing this, I have worked there for almost three years.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I would have to say the versatility in regards to the subject matters I get to work with, as it enabels me to learn new things almost daily.

You currently live in Stockholm, what do you enjoy the most about living in the Swedish capital?

Having moved here from a small town of around 5500 people, I would have to say the size of the place, the "city pulse", and all of the exciting activities, restaurants, and bars that you can find here. Not to mention that the place looks stunning with its old historical buildings, surrounded by water with bridges everywhere. It's a cool and beautiful place that's for sure!

Did your time at Lund University contribute to your professional development? If so, in what ways?

I think so! It's always difficult to say precisely how, as it can be quite intangible and hard to measure. The biggest takeaway, besides the networking opportunities it has granted me, is probably how it has helped me to understand new subject matters quickly and in an agile way. Also, the methods of writing and conducting research, that I still use to this day.

What career advice would you give to current students at Graduate School?

Besides studying in Lund, which you are already doing, it would be that you need to have courage.

I might sound a little cliché, but in an attempt to be more concrete, you simply have to take every shot you can. Apply to a job even if it seems like a reach, ask those in your network about job prospects at their current workplace and if you have a dream job or a workplace where you have always wanted to work at, contact them! It might not always work, but if you never try you will never know!

Do you have any advice to prospective students interested in the master of Global Studies?

Apply! I have made lifelong friends along the way, learned a lot and I would not change that for anything in the world.
